Project : 1960's Student Protesters?

    Kent State University Massacre

Subject : History

A Y10 History group from The City School recently created a newsflash looking at the Vietnam War protest movement.

As part of the Triples programme, Mr Wall from City brought a group of Y10 GCSE History pupils to the City Learning Centre.

During their time here, they explored the issues surrounding the killings of students at Kent State University in 1970. It was important to examine the events from different perspectives, so what better way than to take on the roles of different players. Each small group of pupils was equpped with a digital video camera which they used to capture footage they had previously scripted. Appropriate dress was in order, although 60's clothes are becoming harder to find!

Between the first and second session, the captured video footage from all groups was assembled into a shared area. Now working in pairs, the individual clips from newscasters, students, National Guardsmen, soldiers and experts could be sequenced together to produce the final newsflash.

Some pupils have obviously found a new calling. George Alagiah eat your heart out!
