Y10 PSHE groups at City Secondary have been voicing their opinions on sexual health websites in the safe anonimity of a specially designed internet discussion group.
Y10 PSHE groups at City Secondary have been voicing their opinions on sexual health websites in the safe anonimity of a specially designed internet discussion group.
The PSHE team at City were keen to find an innovative way of allowing Y10's to say what they really thought in an environment where they wouldn't feel intimidated or threatened - very important given the subject matter.
Aaron our materials developer set up the discussion group and the CLC staff worked with the school team to identify 6 different websites for the classes to evaluate.
During the classes, each user was given a special login based on the name of a TV show which meant they could post messages to the forum without being identifiable to other students. Some moderation of the site was necessary but all in all most comments were appropriate as well as being very insightful.
Ofsted observation of some of the lessons was extremely positive and other schools have shown an interest in using web-based discussion groups and not just for PSHE.
