Subject : History
A group of Year 7 and 8 students from Myrtle Springs, Handsworth Grange and All Saints Schools visited the City Learning Centre as part of a Gifted and Talented History project.
The project
The students had previously been to Hadrian’s Wall, the Museum of Antiquity in Newcastle and the Roman Forts in South Shields and Wallsend taking pictures and gathering information.
They were working towards a presentation showing how they would set up a new museum and interactive visitor centre about Hadrians Wall, passing on the information they had gathered about the Romans, to inform other people.
The pupils used Kar2ouche, Powerpoint and the Internet and presented their ideas on interactive whiteboards.
Outcomes
Learning Mentor at Myrtle Springs, Frank Shiels, said the pupils found the project fascinating.
“We all enjoyed the chance to use the City Learning Centre as the equipment is state-of-the-art and it was a very welcoming environment.”
John Crossland from the Archeology Unit at Manchester University co-ordinated the Gifted and Talented project and commented on how hard the pupils had worked.
“The City Learning Centre has the capacity to allow all the pupils to be together in one place so they can interact with each other. The pupils have learnt a lot about ICT on this project, skills that they can take away with them.”
